My First Demo Teaching: The Influence of Terrains on Natural Differentiation and Economic Exploitation

Flow of the Demo Teaching

1. Introducing the Teacher

Knowing the teacher is the first step in gaining student's trust and attention. That was why I introduced myself in the most creative way that I know while utilizing the available tools in the classroom such as the television. I edited a 20 seconds video introduction about myself, and I also made it in a way that my students would understand it better.

2. Motivation

It is important to catch the students' attention before starting the lesson proper. That was why I tried my best to formulate a simple guessing game entitled "Help Mr. Bao."

It was actually a funny story. While I was preparing for my motivation, I searched a famous Vietnamese name in Google so that it will be the one I will use as a name for my main character. Cutting the story short, I decided to use the name Bao, I called my character in my motivation game as "Mr. Bao."

When I mentioned "Help Mr. Bao to get into the Future School by naming the terrains that block his way" the student suddenly became excited. They were shouting and cheering, I thought this was only because they were eager to answer the motivation activity I gave them.

Fast forward, after my class, I went to the teacher who observed my teaching to hand over my evaluation form. After putting his signature, he handed me the forms. That's when I realized that his name is 'Bao.'

3. Lesson Proper

I explained the influence of terrain on natural territorial differentiation: for climate and organisms and for rivers and lands. I used pictures for the students to visualize the lessons.

I also discussed about the influence of terrain in economic exploitation. I presented two picture: pepper production in Bình Phước  and Nha Trang Beach. I asked the students what do they think is the main profession/job in each place

4. Activity

I provided a hand-out activity to the students. They were obliged to draw and describe their places in relation to the discussion.
